You know Apple has big plans for a product when they put an "i" or "Apple" before it. This time, the company hopes to reinvent the pencil. It's not like we haven't seen a stylus before, but Apple has put its typical sleek spin on it. The fancy part is that the pencil detects position, tilt, and force — for instance, you can push harder to get a darker stroke. Apple's chief designer, Jonathan Ive, promises the responsiveness "feels like a true writing or drawing instrument," and apps specifically created for it will be available. It's intended to work with the new souped-up iPad Pro, and you charge it by plugging it directly into the iPad.

Apple even had an exec from rival Microsoft come out to talk about how the stylus will increase productivity with its products. Nothing is sexier than Excel, right? The Apple Pencil costs $99, way more than your typical No. 2. It's available in November. Think we'll see "pencil" making Christmas wish lists?

Ahead, see what it looks like up close.

P.S. It charges just like current iPhone models.
