Though it's kind of the point, browsing Netflix can be a little overstimulating. There are eerily accurate recommendations, splashy posters for original content, very specific genres, and then — to the dismay of many — previews that suddenly and automatically play in the background. But in its ongoing quest to be as user-friendly as possible, the streaming service just rolled out a way to turn off autoplay [2].

"Some people find this feature helpful. Others not so much," Netflix recently tweeted in response to a complaint [3] about the autoplay setting that allows for trailers to play as users scroll through the main feed. Here's how it works: simply sign into your account, select manage profiles from the pop-up menu, select the profile you'd like to update, and then uncheck the box for "autoplay previews while browsing on all devices."

We've heard the feedback loud and clear — members can now control whether or not they see autoplay previews on Netflix. Here's how: https://t.co/6V2TjEW6HD [4] https://t.co/zbz4E8fVab [5]

The update also applies to episodic series. For users who wouldn't prefer for the next episode to automatically play, simply follow the same aforementioned instructions, but this time, uncheck the box for "autoplay next episode in a series on all devices." While it's easy to feel powerless while burning through episodes back to back, this new feature should help users feel a little more in control.
