Jesy Nelson Just Ushered In Her New Era: "I Don't Think Anyone Is Going to Expect This"

Mixers might want to take a seat, because Jesy Nelson is boldly ushering in her new era — and she means serious business. Following her departure from girl group Little Mix last December as a choice to prioritize her health, Jesy took to Instagram on Thursday evening to tease her "new chapter" with a video montage. The clip begins revealing Jesy, wearing all white, behind a lift door and is cut with snippets of the pop star on shoots and working hard in the dance studio, sporting her signature headscarfs, bucket hats, dungarees, and oversize T-shirts. In the first hour of the video's release, it had almost 350,000 views.

Jesy narrates the video, expressing "For me, this is the music I've always wanted to make. I don't think anyone is gonna expect this," adding "this is the new chapter for me." Later in the clip, she continues, "If you genuinely believe something enough and you want it to happen, you can make it happen. You can manifest it."

The clip ends with the lift door closing on Jesy in a black corseted outfit followed by a loading bar, leaving us with a thirsty anticipation for Jesy's next move. If the singer's award-winning BBC Three documentary, Odd One Out, is anything to go by, we're in store for something raw, honest, and uniquely her. The documentary, released at the end of 2019, explores cyberbullying with the singer candidly sharing her own experience and its effects on her mental health after years of online trolling. Resonating with viewers, the documentary saw Jesy winning the award for best factual program at the 2020 National Television Awards.

Watch the full teaser ahead, and keep an eye on the singer's newly stripped-back Instagram feed for her next moves.
