Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill Are Sexy Spies in the Thrilling "Argylle" Trailer

Dua Lipa is about to hit the big screen again in Matthew Vaughn's spy thriller "Argylle." The world-famous singer-songwriter, fashion mogul, and podcast host added Hollywood films to her repertoire this summer thanks to her appearance in Greta Gerwig's "Barbie." Following her role as Mermaid Barbie, the pop star will add playing a femme fatale opposite Henry Cavill to her acting credentials.

On Sept. 28, Universal Pictures and Apple TV+ released the trailer for "Argylle," along with more first-look photos. Lipa sports a blunt blonde bob throughout the trailer, which early on shows her wearing a gold minidress and being lifted by Cavill in a dance sequence. A racy movie moment for the "Levitating" singer, but is this really the spy film stereotype we've become accustomed to? No, it seems. While the film's plot may appear to hit the typical spy thriller tropes, it takes a sudden turn.

News of "Argylle" surfaced after a first-look image of Lipa and Cavill dropped on March 8, 2022, which showed the blond-haired singer looking cozy in her costar's arms. Lipa shared the image on her Instagram page with a caption that reads, "First look!! Coming soon . . . #Argylle."

According to the synopsis, "Argylle," based on the novel of the same name by Elly Conway, follows a skilled spy who suffers from amnesia and is led to believe that he is actually a successful author, with his specialty being spy novels. It features a star-studded cast that includes Bryan Cranston, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson. Conway is a character in the movie, played by Bryce Dallas Howard.

"Argylle" Plot

Conway (the character) is a reclusive author of espionage novels. While her book franchise may focus on the thrilling world of secret agent Argylle, her real life centers on cozying up at home with her beloved cat, Alfie. But her life is thrown into disarray when her fictional books begin to mirror the world of a real-life spy organization. Elly, along with her cat, travel around the world in a bid to stay ahead of the killers she has been writing about.

"Argylle" Cast

The film's cast is seriously stacked. While Howard plays the lead author, she's joined by a set of A-list names, like Lipa and Cavill, as well as Cena, Jackson, Cranston, Sam Rockwell ("The Green Mile"), Ariana DeBose ("West Side Story"), and Catherine O'Hara ("Schitt's Creek"). Plus, there is a very special appearance by cat royalty. Alfie the cat is played by Chip, the real-life pet of Claudia Schiffer, who is married to director Vaughn.

"Argylle" Release Date

The movie hits theaters on Feb. 2, 2024.
