The Most Spectacular GIF and Video of Pluto Ever Taken

The world took a collective gasp when NASA's New Horizons spacecraft flew over Pluto in July and captured a photo of the dwarf planet. Now, there's a mesmerizing video capturing just what that looked like to New Horizons. Created by Björn Jónsson, a developer and space aficionado, the video/animation combines the photos that New Horizons took with some slightly exaggerated features, such as what night looks like on Pluto.

The video only lasts for about 16 seconds, even though the entire journey to take these photos took two hours (and about a decade to reach the planet!). It's pretty cool to watch and imagine that this is what flying over Pluto would feel like — marvelous and startling.
