Cue the eye roll — the Oxford Dictionary just published an update with plenty of overused slang terms. Some terms they included, like "yas" and "squad goals," are so overdone we wish they would disappear altogether. Expand your vocabulary, people!

We curated a list of words that we all need to stop saying ASAP. If you're still throwing these slang terms around, you're 2000 and late. Check out which words are done this year.

01
Bae

Bae

Nothing makes the internet cringe more than the constant use of bae. It's like the lazy version of "babe" or the equivalent to the early 2000s "boo" obsession we all had. Let's just leave it behind.

02
Yas

Yas

It's yes. Yas is not a word. Stop saying it — you sound like a baby llama crying out for its mother.

03
Lit

Lit

When something is lit, that usually means it's on fire, so why on earth are we saying that to describe fun events? If the party was lit, shouldn't that mean that everyone is running out the door and the fire department is coming? Let's come up with a new word.

04
Fleek

Fleek

Fleek is done. Leave it in the ground where it belongs. It sounds so outdated and was overused in 2016. It actually burns our ears to hear it now.

05
Goals

Goals

Yes, we love to describe something perfect with goals (e.g., relationship goals, friendship goals, etc.). But instead of obsessing over perfection, let's allow the word "goals" to get back to its original meaning: something that we can realistically strive for.

06
Slay

Slay

Stop saying you slayed stuff. The literal definition of slay is to kill a person or animal in a violent way, so the fact that this got popular in the first place is twisted.

07
Squad

Squad

Squad is so overplayed, it's ridiculous. We'll admit it was fun to describe your group of friends as squad goals for a while, but now you just sound like a broken record.

08
Feels

Feels

Saying you have "so many feels" is just the lazy version of describing your emotions. Instead of using this word, how about just saying you're sad? Or inspired? Or mad? It's that simple!

09
Totes

Totes

Simple alternative for this one: just use the full word. Say "totally." Yes, it's a couple syllables more, but you sound so much smarter.

10
Vibes

Vibes

It seems like every photo on Instagram gives off a "vibe" these days. It's time to up your caption game — especially because this word became popular in 2013. That means you sound like you're stuck in that year every time you say that word.
