Pampers is the brand you turn to for diapers and wipes throughout your baby's infanthood and early toddler years, but the brand is looking to become so much more to its customers with a revolutionary new product called Lumi by Pampers. Lumi is a technology-based care system made up of a video monitor, diaper sensor, and an app that seeks to give parents more insight into their infant's routines and needs, subsequently putting their new parent worries at ease.

It's not uncommon for new parents to lose track of their infant's feeding schedule or forget the last time they had a dirty diaper, and conversely, some parents find themselves paying such close attention that they stay up at night watching their child breathe on the baby monitor. Now sleep-deprived parents (especially those who are Type A — I see you, and I'm with you) can relax a bit knowing Lumi is on their side, keeping track of the important information surrounding their baby's care.

Keep reading to see how Lumi's features work, and why this genius product may be a lifesaver for new parents (and a great go-to baby shower gift!) when it launches in Fall 2019. And get yourself on the waitlist for it now!

The Lumi system is made up of an 1080p wide angle HD video monitor, an activity sensor that is attached to baby's diapers at all times, and the Lumi diapers. The camera has night vision, two-way audio, and tracks room temperature and humidity, and ensures parents can check in on baby from anywhere using the Lumi app. The sensor automatically tracks baby's activities including wet diapers and sleep (kind of like your Fitbit tracks your steps and sleep). It attaches to the outside of the Lumi diapers, which are similar to Pampers Swaddlers but are enhanced to pair exclusively with the activity sensor at each diaper change.

The Lumi App

The Lumi app is the main part of the entire system, as it's where all of your baby's data is stored. In addition to the information from the sensor and video monitor, parents can manually add feedings of any kind and baby's milestones (first tooth, vaccines — anything that could cause a small or large change in baby's usual routine). The app keeps the information parents need to know (and information their child's doctor might ask for) in one place and charts it both daily and weekly so parents can see how baby's routines evolve over time.

In trials, one mom who used Lumi noted that it helped her to decide it was time to drop her baby's second nap, which was something she was nervous about. However, seeing that the nap was tracking shorter and shorter over time, she realized that her intuition about the nap being rendered unnecessary was correct, giving her a little parent ego boost. (We could all use a few of those!)

On the app's home screen, parents can see everything at a glance — when baby last ate, last slept (and for how long!), last had a diaper change, and if they're in need of one right now. The camera feed appears at the top so parents can monitor baby.

How the Lumi App Helps With Routines

Building a routine with a baby is tough work — they're constantly changing and adapting, and usually, right when you feel like you have a solid routine set is exactly when it changes completely, throwing you for a loop. With Lumi, it's easier to see how routines are gradually changing over time, so you can feel like you have a better handle on your child's evolving needs in real time.

Who Lumi Is Best For

Really, all new parents could benefit from Lumi, especially first-time parents — but Type A parents and those who are data and information driven will probably love Lumi the most. Additionally, Lumi is great for working parents who leave their child in the care of someone else during the day — they can see baby on the monitor and check out all of their diapering, feeding, and sleep information, all from their desk.
