Microsoft's New Ad on Girls Who Want a Career in Science Has a Twist You Won't See Coming

It's not easy being a young girl with dreams of pursing a career in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). There are plenty of obstacles she'll need to overcome to achieve her goals. But the next generation is sure they'll meet them — no matter what. In a new Microsoft ad, the company shows different girls who are excited about changing the world and determined to do it despite the odds.

The video begins by asking a group of girls what they want to change in the world. One girl wants to find a cure for breast cancer, another is worried about fresh water. Microsoft then lets them explore these interests. Then the girls sit back down and they're shown a screen that reads as follows: "Odds are you won't solve these problems. Only 6.7 percent of women graduate with STEM degrees." At first, the girls are crestfallen. Watch the video above to see how the girls rise up despite this statistic.
