This Is How to Sync Your iPhone to Your Computer When iTunes Shuts Down

By now, there's a good chance you've already heard the news that Apple is getting rid of iTunes and replacing it with a new app named Music. More specifically, iTunes will be replaced with three individual apps: Music, Podcasts, and Apple TV. As we know it, the do-it-all platform is packed with all of these forms of media, but dividing them into three separate apps will streamline the process and, quite simply, make life a whole lot easier. Thankfully, your songs and movies will also transfer right over to their respective new apps — proving that Apple continues to make magic happen.

Whether you've been storing songs in iTunes since 2003 or you quietly abandoned the platform to create a playlist on Spotify, you might still use it to sync your precious memories and files to your Mac. If so, first know that there's no reason to panic — Apple will be creating a new way to transfer your data from your iPhone to your computer. "When users connect a device to their Mac, it will immediately show up in the sidebar of [your Mac's] Finder, enabling them to backup, update, or restore their device," the company explained in a press release. The most important thing to note is that while the syncing tool won't show up in the new Music app, it will show up in Finder instead. Easy enough, right?

As for when this change is actually going to happen, you have a little bit of time to keep that 18-year spark alive with good ol' iTunes. The three new apps will launch with the brand's newest operating system, macOS Catalina 10.15, this Fall.
