6 Wedding Hashtag Tips to Create the One of Your Dreams

Wedding planning is stressful, fun, and completely nerve-racking. You want the day to be absolutely perfect, with zero problems. That's why coming up with clever ideas for your wedding hashtag can turn into a major roadblock. Well, if you're still figuring out your hashtag, look no further for expert advice than Marielle Wakim, the woman behind the company Happily Ever #Hashtagged, which comes up with a wedding hashtag for you.

Wakim is an LA-based writer and the arts and culture editor at Los Angeles Magazine. Considering her company currently has a wait list of orders, she definitely knows what it takes to come up with a hashtag. Keep reading to see what tips she gave us on how to create a perfect hashtag.

Use the Alphabet to Find a Perfect Rhyme

Before you try to think of something clever, start small and simple, and "run through the alphabet and see what rhymes with the groom's last name," said Wakim. She means it! So that means if someone's last name is Mason, try Ason, Bason, and so on to see if something sparks a memory or idea.

Think of Rhymes Your Name Can Fit Into

So if the alphabet doesn't work out for you, start thinking about pop culture references, song lyrics, and wedding phrases instead. "Those can be good jumping off points to working your last name into it," said Wakim.

Use Phrases About Love

Use clichés or common phrases like "holy matrimony" or "husband and wife" to incorporate into your wedding hashtag.

Don't Limit Yourself to Just Your Brain

If you're stuck trying to think of your own hashtag, ask your friends, the internet, and anyone else you know. "People actually get pretty into [coming up with a hashtag] [and] pretty competitive — they want to come up with the winning one," said Wakim. This means more clever ideas for you. "Don't feel bad about tapping into the high brain of the internet," said Wakim.

It's OK to Have a Long Hashtag

Pro tip: you're the bride or groom — your guests will use your hashtag no matter what. So if it's a bit long, don't worry about it! You'll only have to type it once before Instagram remembers it and autopopulates it into your post. "If you love your hashtag and it's a little bit long, who cares? Embrace it!" said Wakim.

Don't Settle

"You don't have to settle for the most basic version of your last name [for a hashtag]," said Wakim. Instead, she suggests to "find someone who can" come up with a fun hashtag or a company like hers that can do it for you. "It's just a matter of finding a way into it that maybe you didn't think of before," said Wakim. "Maybe it's like using their nickname or using only part of their last name."
