HBO's Cable-Free Streaming Service Is Coming

Cord cutters, rejoice! HBO is launching a digital streaming service in early April for $15 a month, the company announced at today's Apple event. It will be called HBO Now, and it's teaming up with Apple TV as its launch partner to stream all original programming. All you need to get it is a broadband connection and a desktop/laptop computer or an iOS device. In the same announcement, Apple said it lowered the Apple TV price to $69 from $99.

Last year, the CEO of HBO confirmed that the network would offer this streaming option to people without a cable or satellite subscription. Until now, accessing HBO's streaming option, HBO Go, without a pricey cable plan has come down to some careful use of friends' HBO Go passwords or still handing over at least some money to TV and Internet providers.

During his initial announcement, CEO Richard Plepler didn't give too many details on the forthcoming service but did estimate that about 80 million households nationwide don't have HBO access. The growing movement of people watching TV shows and movies solely through their Internet connection has shown "it is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO," he said.

Just imagine all the classic HBO shows that might soon be at your fingertips!
