Facebook is introducing a new app called Rooms [1] that's bringing back something you probably haven't used in a while: public, semianonymous chat rooms. Remember the days of signing on to AOL and asking people what their A/S/L (age/sex/location) was? Facebook's new iOS app is hoping to revive that same concept with a fresh, emoji-friendly twist.

Rooms are centered around specific topics, like beekeeping or biking. You can post photos, videos, and text pertaining to that common interest. Unlike Facebook, you don't have to use your real name. Users can create whatever nicknames they desire. You can even create different pseudonyms for different rooms. Each room has its own specific, customizable like button created by the moderator. For example, the beekeeping room's like button is "Buzz" with a bee emoji.
