The "Dislike" Button Is Coming to Facebook — Huzzah!

Your Facebook wishes have been granted. Mark Zuckerberg announced in a Q&A that his team is working on a "dislike" button for the site and will soon be testing it.

"Not every moment is a good moment," Zuckerberg said. "If you share something that's sad like a refugee crisis that touches you or a family member passes away, it may not be comfortable to 'like' that post . . . I do think it's important to give people more options than 'liking' it." While we love the idea of a "dislike" button as an expression of empathy, we can only imagine all the wrong ways this button will also be used!

The decision to finally create one has been an ongoing discussion for years. Back in 2014, Bret Taylor, the mastermind behind the "like" button, said it was too complicated to produce, but Facebook is now apparently ready to take on the challenge. Although there is no exact date for the launch yet, one thing we hope for sure is that the "dislike" button will outlive the poke.
