For Jared, Facebook is more than just a way to pass the time online; it's something that allows him to connect with people all over the world in a time of need.
The 26-year-old was diagnosed with autism when he was young, and navigating adult life with the mentality of a 5-year-old has been especially difficult without someone really important to him: his dad. His father passed away from cancer last year, and Jared's cousin says it hasn't been easy [1] for Jared to cope.
So Jared's family decided to do something special to make him happy, and with some help from lovely humans all over the Internet, the result is more of a success than they could have imagined. Jared loves getting mail, so the Facebook page Cards for Jared [2] makes it possible for anyone to send Jared anything — a letter, a package, kind words. "The page has already brought so much joy back into his life. Every day he eagerly goes to the mail to see if he's gotten anything," Jared's cousin wrote in his Imgur post [3].
"I'm overwhelmed by the support of the Imgur community. Thank you all so much for the overwhelming amount of support you're showing towards my cousin," he continued.
See some of the sweet moments Jared has gotten to experience because of the Cards for Jared community [4], and then find out what he loves so you can send something, too.
