Apple Just Launched New Versions of the iPad Air and the iPad Mini

Mar 18 2019 - 3:50pm

Apple [1] is giving the iPad a fresh update [2]. The company announced on March 18 that it's added a new iPad Air model to its lineup in addition to updating the iPad Mini for the first time in years.

According to a product description, the new iPad Air [3] — which comes in Gold, Silver, and Space Gray — has a 10.5-inch display and works with the first-generation Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard. It's also powered by an A12 Bionic chip and weighs just one pound, which means it'll be super easy to carry around at any time.

Meanwhile, the new iPad Mini [4], which hasn't been updated since 2015, features an A12 chip as well, plus a 7.9-inch screen that's 25 percent brighter and has a higher pixel density than the previous model. The Mini also works with the Apple Pencil.

Both items are now available to shop online, and the products will be in stores by next week. The iPad Air is available online starting at $499 [5] for a 64GB model with WiFi, though a more expensive model is also available with additional storage (256GB) and cellular connectivity. iPad Minis start at $399 [6] for WiFi models, and $529 for WiFi and cellular models.
