13 Geeky Reasons to Love Alton Brown Forever and Ever

Dec 27 2016 - 4:00pm

You likely know Alton Brown [1] from one of his many Food Network shows (Good Eats, anyone?), but did you know there's a geek behind that confident chef exterior? Keep reading for a small sampling of geeky reasons to love Alton Brown.

He gets excited about nitrous oxide cold brew.

As in, cold brew coffee that comes out like beer on tap, all smooth and creamy and delicious. For obvious reasons, Alton says it's better [7].

He has a bow tie collection.

A collection! Of bow ties!

He uses geographic coordinates to give flash signing locations.

Because where's the fun in making it easy?

He appreciates a good pun.

Panes. Get it?

He's basically a food etymologist.

I mean, have you seen Good Eats?

Bill Nye is his hero.

Or so he says [8]! Alton was once tired of people mentioning Bill Nye [9] to him.

He participated in the Nerd HQ 2015 panel at Comic-Con.

As one of the nerds of pop culture with Col. Chris Hadfield, Nathan Edmonson, Adam Savage, Bobak Ferdowsi, Alison Haislip, Zach Lipovsky, Nathan Fillion, and Clare Grant.

And took a selfie with Nathan Fillion and Adam Savage.

Alton and Adam have worked together on MythBusters [10]. They go way back.

He gets excited about his "Star Trek doors."

"Hey, Shatner, do you hear that?! I've got these things in my house."

(The full video [11] is pretty amazing.)

He's a Star Wars fan.

But he prefers Star Trek [12], the original.

And a Whovian.

A true Thyme Lord.

And a Sherlock fan.

Obviously.

To Alton, food is science.

Just casually making his Jet Cream ice cream using some fire extinguishers.

Mad science.
